Dr. Pınar Kara is a lawyer and scholar specialized in business and human rights. She is the Co-Founder and Chair of the Business and Human Rights Association (BHRTR), the first civil society organization in Türkiye dedicated exclusively to business and human rights. 

Her work focuses on corporate responsibility to respect human rights, tort liability within corporate groups, and the legal and governance dimensions of human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD). She provides strategic guidance to companies in navigating the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and related national and international regulatory frameworks. 

Dr. Kara advises multinational corporations, business associations and public institutions on supply chain risk analysis, human rights impact assessments, development of policies and grievance mechanisms, remediation processes, and capacity building. Her approach goes beyond regulatory compliance, aiming to integrate human rights considerations into corporate governance structures and decision-making processes. She has worked with numerous international organizations, including UNDP, UNICEF and GIZ, and has led multi-stakeholder initiatives bringing together public authorities, private sector actors and civil society organizations. 

Dr. Kara graduated from Bilkent University Faculty of Law and obtained an Advanced LL.M. in European Business Law as a Jean Monnet Scholar from Leiden University. She completed her PhD in Private Law at Istanbul Bilgi University with a dissertation examining corporate group liability for human rights abuses and environmental harm from a comparative law perspective. Her doctoral thesis was published in 2023 by Springer under the Ius Gentium series. She is a visiting lecturer at Istanbul Bilgi University, where she teaches sustainability, responsible business conduct and ESG. 

As Chair of the Association, Dr. Kara works to strengthen institutional awareness of business and human rights in Türkiye, monitor regulatory developments, and provide practice-oriented guidance, fostering constructive dialogue between companies, public institutions and civil society.
