Caner Özen is a qualified lawyer with nearly two decades of experience in corporate and commercial law, advising multinational and domestic clients on complex transactions across sectors shaping the future of energy, finance, and infrastructure. His practice spans mergers and acquisitions, banking and finance transactions, privatization projects, shipbuilding contracts, and renewable energy investments.

Since being admitted to the Istanbul Bar in 2006, Caner has been involved in high-profile cross-border transactions, guiding clients through due diligence processes, regulatory compliance, and strategic project structuring. His experience in renewable energy and infrastructure projects has provided him with a strong understanding of sustainability-driven investments and the regulatory transformation accompanying the green transition.

Through his extensive work in M&A and finance transactions, Caner brings valuable insight into corporate governance, risk management, and compliance systems — key building blocks of effective human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD). His familiarity with complex supply chains, contractual risk allocation, and multi-stakeholder projects enables him to contribute a practical legal perspective to the implementation of responsible business standards.

As a member of the Board, Caner supports the BHRTR’s mission by strengthening the bridge between corporate law practice and Business & Human Rights frameworks. His background allows him to contribute to discussions on regulatory developments, sustainability-linked finance, responsible investment, and the integration of human rights considerations into corporate decision-making processes.
