link_target=&#8221;_self&#8221; text_content=&#8221;Empowering Women for Gender Equality and Socioeconomic Inclusion in Ad\u0131yaman&#8221; text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;][\/split_line_heading][vc_column_text text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Implemented between <\/span><b>March 2024 and January 2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the <\/span><b>Business and Human Rights Association (BHRTR)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the support of the <\/span><b>Consulate General of Sweden in Istanbul<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this project focused on promoting gender equality and inclusive workplace practices in the ready-to-wear sector in the earthquake-affected region of T\u00fcrkiye, with a particular emphasis on the <\/span><b>Ad\u0131yaman Organized Industrial Zone (AOIZ)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>6 February 2023 Kahramanmara\u015f earthquakes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> caused severe damage to the region\u2019s industrial infrastructure and disrupted local labour markets. Women workers in the ready-to-wear sector were disproportionately affected, facing increased care responsibilities, psychosocial challenges, and structural barriers to equal participation in the workforce. Against this backdrop, the project was designed to assess these challenges, enhance awareness, and strengthen company-level capacities to integrate gender-sensitive, human rights-based approaches into workplace policies.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=&#8221;padding-2-percent&#8221; Based on meetings with local stakeholders and surveys involving 800 employees, the assessment identified the main obstacles to women\u2019s participation in the workforce and documented the compounded impacts of the earthquakes on women workers. These findings served as the foundation for the project\u2019s subsequent activities.[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][toggle color=&#8221;Accent-Color&#8221; heading_tag=&#8221;h3&#8243; heading_tag_functionality=&#8221;default&#8221; title=&#8221;Awareness-raising workshops&#8221;][vc_column_text text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]Following the gender assessment, awareness-raising workshops were organized for women workers. These sessions addressed human rights, gender equality, and gender-based violence and harassment (<strong>GBVH<\/strong>). To respond to urgent needs revealed by the assessment, psychosocial support sessions were incorporated into the programme, and parallel creative activities were organized for children, enabling women to participate more actively.[\/vc_column_text][\/toggle][toggle color=&#8221;Accent-Color&#8221; heading_tag=&#8221;h3&#8243; heading_tag_functionality=&#8221;default&#8221; title=&#8221;Capacity-building trainings&#8221;][vc_column_text text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]At the company level, capacity-building trainings were delivered to employers, human resources personnel, occupational health and safety specialists, and worker representatives in the ready-to-wear sector. The model incorporated principles of accessibility, confidentiality, non-retaliation, and transparency.
