Prof. Dr. Demet Can was born in İzmir in 1963 and graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1986. She became a Specialist in Pediatrics in 1992 and a Specialist in Pediatric Immunology and Allergy in 2003. She was appointed Associate Professor in 2005 and Professor in 2015. 

Between 2015 and 2022, she served as the Founding Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Balıkesir University. She currently works at the University of Health Sciences, İzmir Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Behçet Uz Children’s Hospital SUAM. She is a former Vice President of the Turkish National Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. 

She is married and has one child.
